As
some hotels tear down the walls between bed and wash areas, a broader
range of properties are playing up their pricey bathroom products
-- and selling the gear for guests to use in the privacy of their
own homes. Here's a sampling:
ITEM/PRICE/HOTEL COMMENTS
Aromatherapeutic bubble bath, price n/a
Fairmont Hotels and Resorts
fairmont.com Fairmont will sell room amenities for the first time,
starting in its hotel stores in May. New bath lines are by Britain's
Miller Harris -- in citron for urban hotels and "Fleur du Matin"
to "encourage relaxation" at resort properties. "The
stuff we had in the bathroom before was so cheap that no one would
have wanted to buy it," says a spokeswoman.
Bulgari boxed set, $100
Ritz Carlton
ritzcarltonshops.com Complimentary in all rooms this year, set includes
soap, lotion, shampoo, conditioner and a "bath tea" sachet,
all scented with White Tea fragrance. But the signature Bulgari
perfume is available only in sample bottles in the hotel's suites
-- or for $55 to $75 on the site. Other offerings include "Rain
Forest" shower head, bathrobes in four knits.
Double-sided vanity mirror, $125
W Hotels
whotelsthestore.com The W has sold this magnifying mirror, with
touch-activated brightness controls, since 2004, adding to a lineup
that included a Footprint Scale with molded chrome "prints"
($68). But $135 spa robes are still the hotel's top sellers.
Pink Rubber Duck, $15
Beverly Hills Hotel
beverlyhillshotel.com The hotel says rubber duckies it started selling
a few years ago aren't just for kids, but the new $90 children's
velour bathrobes are. Hotel also sells "faucet pals" ($20)
-- puppets that fit over handles and faucets to prevent young bathers
from getting banged up in the tub.
Scented bathroom candles, $25
Sofitel
soboutique.com Sofitel's online boutique began selling bath products
by French perfumer Roger & Gallet just over a year ago. Also
on offer: body milk ($15) and eau de cologne ($33).
