Keeping
your bathroom clean and neat is essential not only to your health
but also to your safety. Shower curtains in particular are often
festering grounds for germs, fungus and mold because they are constantly
wet and moist, besides being in close proximity to dirt in the shower
and tub.
With proper care shower curtains can last up to a year and beyond!
Since shower curtains aren’t terribly expensive replacing
them is an easy way to breath new life into your bathroom. If you
notice tough mold or stains they should be replaced immediately,
but barring that replace at your own whim!
For proper care of your shower curtain see the following:
Mildew is one of the biggest problems in any bathroom. The moisture
found in the shower area can be especially attractive to the growth
of mildew in your shower and on your shower curtain. Getting into
these simple habits will help prevent mildew, keeping your bathroom
free from illness causing germs and bacteria.
· Have good lighting in your bathroom
· If you don’t get a lot of natural light always have
enough electric light to shine in even the corners of the bathroom.
· When you have showered or bathed always open a window or
turn on the fan to get air moving through the bathroom
· After showering close the curtain; this lets the shower
curtain dry thoroughly and prevents moisture buildup in the folds
of your shower curtain.
· Make sure you clean your bathroom, including the shower,
once a week! You should wash your shower curtain in hot water in
the washing machine occasionally, adding 1 cup of bleach.
· If you are having trouble with mildew on your walls repaint
using mildew proof paint, made especially for the bathroom.
These are easy steps that can become habits worth having!
