Decorating
your bathroom is not the most important priority on your list but
you do not have to spend a fortune to make your bathroom a pleasant
place to retreat to at the end of a long day. Following are some
tips on making the most of what you have when bathroom decorating
on a budget.
Bathrooms are one of the easiest and least expensive rooms to decorate
in a home. However, you face several challenges when decorating
a bathroom. Most bathrooms are very sterile, and lack character.
The mirrors are plain, the light fixtures ordinary, the counters
mundane. Very few of us are lucky enough to have bathrooms with
black marble counters, gold plated faucets, or a whirling Jacuzzi
in the corner. A lot of our decorating money may need to be spent
of disguising problems, rather than beautifying.
· Decide on a theme / color scheme that will be reflected
throughout the room. An African motif and was chosen for the first
bathroom, while the second bathroom was given a fresh, feminine
look featuring blue and white stripes and florals.
· Select various accent pieces that reflect the chosen theme.
Here, accessories included African photos and artifacts.
· If the bathtub has a dull look, consider reglazing it.
(This costs only a fraction of the amount that would be spent to
have the tub replaced.)
· Choose a shower curtain with colors that pull the room
together.
· Try using light, bright colors to create the illusion
of expanded space.
· To conserve space, consider using a pedestal sink instead
of a traditional vanity.
· Use large floor tiles to give the room a spacious, open
appearance.
· To soften the look of the room, add lighting that can
be adjusted with a dimmer switch.
· Look for bargains on fabric that can be used for shower
curtains and window treatments.
