You
are told to give as a gift something that you yourself would want
to receive. This is easy to do when you are giving bath and body
gifts. Who doesn’t want a wonderful scented candle or excellent
scented and healing lotion?
Of course, you do need to be careful, sometimes. For instance,
one holiday season, I really wanted some anti-aging lotions, face
washes, creams, and serums. So, I decided to make a gift of these
wonderful things to both a good friend and my mother. Needless to
say, neither of them were too excited about their gifts.
Both of them took as an insult. They thought that I was implying
that they look old and needed to do something about it. I forgot
about the general rule of thumb if someone offers you a breath mint,
you better take it because you must have bad breath.
I tried to explain that these bath and body supplies were only
preventative and how I had even wanted them for myself – not
because I thought that I was old and wrinkly, but because I don’t
want to become old and wrinkly.
Alas, it was to no great avail. My friend understood, but my mother
did not. The irony is, though, that both my mother and my friend
have used their anti-aging kits religiously all year, and now they
are out of their supplies… and they want some new anti-aging
products for Christmas!
Anyhow, I’m not sure if the lesson here is to continue giving
gifts that you yourself want, or that you shouldn’t. Perhaps
the only lesson here is that bath and body gifts are always a great
idea. They even have some wonderful bath and body gifts for men,
these days. Men need to learn that it’s ok for them to pamper
themselves sometimes, too.
