If
you don’t have the time or the money to book yourself a weekend
in a top spa, why not create your own “spa” at home?
Even if you can only allow yourself one hour in your personal spa,
you will feel the results. Just send the kids to a friend’s
house and take the phone off the hook. Don’t let anything
disturb you during your “me” time. Aromatherapy in the
bathroom can get you back on track.
Aromatherapy is not simply about relaxing you like a nice long
bath does. Many people believe that aromatherapy has other, more
personal benefits, too. With aromatherapy, it seems that you can
reduce stress and even cure pains.
So, what is aromatherapy? Aromatherapy is the art and practice
of using essential oils to restore and enhance health, beauty, and
well-being. These essential oils are extracted from aromatic plants
and herbs. You may think it seems far-fetched that these oils can
cure some of your ailments, but just think of where some of our
medicines like aspirin come from – they come from plants and
herbs, too.
The wonderful scents from essential oils do not simply smell good,
they drift up your nasal passage and give a signal to your limbic
system. Your limbic system is directly connected to the part of
the brain that controls hear rate, blood pressure, and other important
functions.
So which essential oils (in the forms of candles, bath oils, lotions,
shower gels, soap, potpourri, and other items) should you be using
to help yourself? Lavender has a calming effect that eases stress,
anxiety, and depression. Rosewood is balancing and uplifiting. It
also stimulates the regeneration of the skin. Eucalyptus cleans
and purifies the air – it helps boost your immune system.
There are many other essential oils out there that work well for
different ailments or desires. Sometimes they work best when used
in combination. Other times they work best alone. Whichever aromatherapy
items you choose, it is sure to be a well-deserved release for your
mind, body, and spirit.
